R.I.P. Hirotaka Sakurai!!!

just found out that Sakurai San died from a sudden illness.

you showed friendship even to a crazy foreigner like me.  you will be missed.

今日、突然でサクライさんがいなくなったのを聞きました。

俺みたいなばかな外人でも仲良くしてくれましたサクライさんいないと寂しいね。

Psycho Rally 2011

just got back from the 2nd Annual Psycho Rally held in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan.  it was incredible.  people from all over Japan rode in on old iron.  the whole parking area was filled with knuckles, pans, shovels, and even a couple of ULs and an Ironhead or two.


i rode over to Lake Saiko after i got off work on Saturday, but we were up all night anyway, so it was all good.


here are a few photos from the first couple of rows of the parking lot the next morning, and some video of a couple of guys messing around with udon noodles.

山梨県の西湖で行ったPsycho Rally 2ndから戻ってきました。本当に最高でした！日本全体からバイカーさんが古いハーレーを乗ってきました。駐車所はナックル、パン、ショベルだらけでした。さらにULもIHも数台ありました。


僕の場合は、仕事終わってから西湖の方に行きましたが、朝までパーティーできましたので、遅くても構いませんでした。


日曜日の朝に駐車所の最初の二列ぐらいの写真を取りました。そしてうどんで遊んでいるバイカー達のビデオも取りました。

and i finally got to meet Nick.  he's a Stampede rider who is now working in Japan.

he just got this 2007 through the import process, and rode right out to the Rally.

の方で仕事しています。 ちょうどこの2007年のストリートボブは輸入した所で、このイベントまで

乗って来てくれました。会えて良かった！またすぐ会いましょうね。

Time flies...

wow.  i passed shaken back in May and have only been able to ride a few times due to the rainy season.  these were taken after getting home from work on a Saturday.


すごい。5月に車検終わりました。それから梅雨のため、乗るチャンスは数回しかなかった。この写真はある土曜日、仕事から帰って来た所です。

Getting Ready for Shaken

the knuck is now pretty much ready for Shaken (mandatory inspections).  i'll be going to do the inspections on May 11th, and if all goes well, i should be riding!


ナックルの車検の準備はほとんど完成です。車検は５月１１日にする予定です。問題はなければ、その日から乗れます！

IT LIVES!!!

finally, the knucklehead has come to life!  here are a couple of videos.  the first one is of the first startup.  my kicking technique is pretty rusty, so it's pretty funny.  also at the end, the capacitor that i had wired in backwards blew.

やっと、ナックルが生きている！スタートアップのビデオを２つあります。一つ目は本当に最初のスタートアップです。キックをずっとしなかったですので、下手でした。面白いと思います。さらに、最後の所で、キャパシターのプラスマイナスは反対にしてあったので、爆発した。

in the second video, we had the carbs adjusted a bit and the capacitor removed.  it's still running a bit rich, but after a bit more fiddling with the carbs, it should be good to go.

２つ目のビデオで、キャブをアジャストして、キャパシターを取りました所です。キャブをもうちょっとアジャストしたら完成と思います。

March 28th

been making slow progress, but i'm almost ready to try to fire it up!  here's where it's at:


ちょっとずつ進んでいますよ。もうすぐ火入れる！今までのプログレスは：

got the twin 36 mm Mikuni carbs on.

２つの36mmミクニキャブを付けた。

finished the tail light/plate mount.

テールライト／ナンバープレートマウントを完成した。

got the air cleaners and speedometer mounted.

エアークリーナーとメーターを付けた。

and timed the magneto.

そしてマグネトの点火を設定した。

also got the transmission filled up with oil, put in about a half a tank of gas, and adjusted the rear wheel.  now as soon as my pre-filter for the oil inlet side comes in, i can fire it up at long last!

さらに、ミッションオイルを入れて、ガソリンをいれて、リヤーホイルをアジャストした。オイルのプレフィルター届いたら、やっとエンジンをかかることできる！

February 21st

been a long time since i updated, so i thought i'd better get to it.  gettin' a little closer.  hopefully only a few more weeks til i'm in the wind.

最後のポストからかなり前でしたので、もうそろそろしなければならないと思いました。もうちょっと近くなりました。問題はなければ、あと数週間で乗れるかも。

got the license plate mount/tail light mount finished.  i think it's pretty stout...

loved the glass lens on this common light that's sold over here.

ナンバープレートマウントとテールステーできました。強いかな？

このライトのガラス好きだった。

 turned some exhaust tips and an oil tank cap outta brass.


真ちゅうからエキゾーストの先とオイルタンクのキャップを作りました。

and also turned a mirror stem out of brass.  gonna shorten it some more though.


さらに、ミラーステーもう真ちゅうから作りました。もうちょっと短くするけど。

December 30th

here are some photos i took yesterday. after i took these, i worked on making copper oil lines. almost done. next will be wiring and gas lines.

昨日この写真を撮りました。その後に銅管でオイルラインを作りました。もうちょっとで終わる。次はハーネスとフューエルホース。

December 7th - Big Catch Up Post

ok folks, so here's a big post to catch everyone up to where i am on this. basically, i have the bike mostly done. there are just a few small things i need to do, and i need to wire the bike, then i can start it finally.

i entered it in the Yokohama Hot Rod & Custom Show this past Sunday with Tomo's garage, Bike Garage Kokoro. we had a lot of fun and quite a few people seemed to like my bike, so i was happy. thanks Tomo!!!

well, here's what i've done...

これは最近出来たことを全部ポストする為のポストです。基本的にバイクを完成した。残っている所はほとんど小さい所、そしてワイヤーなど。それ終わったら、エンジンの音を聞くこと出来るかな〜？

この前の日曜日にトモさんのバイクガレージ心と一緒にYokohama Hot Rod & Custom Showに出した。楽しむこと色々ありました。そして、色々の人は私のバイクを好きだったみたいですので、とても嬉しかった。有り難うトモさん！！！

シートの鉄板を作って、そしてゴムを付けた。

leather cut, design stamped, and ready for dye.

革を切って、デザインをスタンプして、黒くする準備が終わりました。

dyed, laced, and mounted.

黒くした後、レースして、フレームに付けた。

frame painted.

first attempt didn't quite work out like i wanted, but a quick photo before wiping it off.

second go round. still not what i had in mind, but a fortuitous accident. i liked this better than what i had planned.

二回目。まだ計画とちょっと違うですけど、計画より好きでした。いい偶然でした。

and ready for the show. you can't see it much here, but Sugisack (Sugisack Studio) laid down the best pinstriping and gold leaf i have EVER SEEN for me. simply amazing, i've got to get some more photos to show.

それで、イベントの為の準備が終わりました。この写真で余り見えないですが、Sugisackさん（Sugisack Studio)はこのバイクに今まで見たことあるピンストライプの中で一番最高なピンストライプとゴルドリーフを入れてくれました。本当に感動的です。もっともっと写真をポストするべき。

of course i have to give a shout out to my Dad and brother for helping all along the way. and Tomo has helped me in more ways than i can even begin to mention. you guys rock!!!

もちろん私のお父さんとお兄さんにも「有り難う！」と言うべき。最初から今まで色々で手伝ってくれました。あとトモさんも、手伝ってくれた方法は数えられないぐらいです。あなたたちは最高です！
